We’re one of Cathay Pacific’s trusted pet travel partners. Whether you want to relocate your dog, cat or exotic animal, Cathay Pacific will transport your pet to your chosen detsination be it Hong Kong, Australia, Auckland, Manila or elsewhere.

Cathay Pacific say: “We look after your pets as if they were our own. Their safety and comfort is our first priority.”

Make reservations aware of your pet travel plans at least 48 hours beforehand. This is to guarantee temperature is maintained for comfort. We recommend that for those catching more than one flight, you book with the same airline, otherwise your pet may get lost.

Pet Travel Carriers

You must buy an IATA-compliant pet travel carrier and complete the necessary documentation with your vet. We recommend that you buy a carrier well in advance of your departure date to get your pet used to it.

Only service dogs such as guide dogs can travel in the aircraft cabin. If your departure area rises to temperatures above 29 °C or lowers below 7°C, you pet may not be boarded.

Temporary Unavailability

Until 30^th June 2021, pets cannot travel as check-in baggage from Hong Kong to Frankfurt, Amsterdam, New York, Los Angeles or San Francisco.

Restricted Dog Breeds

Cathay Pacific (UK and others) do not board the following breeds:

• Boston Terrier
• Boxer
• Bulldog
• King Charles, Tibetan, Japanese or Toy Spaniel
• Chow Chow
• Mastiff (Any)
• Pekingese
• Shih Tzus
• Staffordshire Bull Terrier
• Pugs (due to health risks to short snouts)

Animals that are classified as dangerous are also not allowed to check in:

• Pit Bull Terrier
• Dogo Argentino
• Japanese Tosa
• Fila Brasiliera

Cats

Exotic cat breeds such as Himalayan, Persian or shorthair cats are not allowed to travel by either cargo or baggage with Cathay Pacific.
